Caps host Bruins in battle of first-place clubs

(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The sizzling Boston Bruins will aim for a sixth straight
victory tonight when they visit Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals in a battle of first-place teams at the Verizon Center.
In addition to the five-game winning streak, the Bruins have won 17 of their
last 20 games and have a 14-1-1 record since the start of November. Boston's
42 points has the club five ahead of Montreal for first place in the Northeast
Division and also atop the Eastern Conference standings.
The Capitals, meanwhile, have lost three of their last five games, but still
lead the Southeast Division with 33 points.
Boston's most recent victory came Monday against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning. Phil Kessel finished with a goal and an assist, as the Bruins
held on for a 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Kessel has the longest current point streak in the NHL, as he's reached the
scoresheet in 12 consecutive games. Kessel has 10 goals and six assists
during the tear and leads Boston with 17 goals on the season.
Boston also has the second-longest current point streak in the NHL as David
Krejci has posted either a goal or an assist in nine straight games.
Milan Lucic, Zdeno Chara, Michael Ryder and P.J. Axelsson each scored once
for Boston in Monday's win and Tim Thomas stopped 26 shots for his 11th
victory of the year.
Boston improved to 10-1-1 as the home team on Monday, but is playing the
first of two straight on the road tonight. The Bruins are 9-3-3 as the
visiting team this year and have won four of their last five road tests.
The Capitals had won back-to-back games before getting dealt a road loss
against Carolina on Sunday. Ray Whitney scored twice, as the Hurricanes
downed Washington, 3-1, in the Southeast Division battle at RBC Center.
Nicklas Backstrom scored the lone goal for Washington, while Jose Theodore
gave up three goals on 25 shots for the Capitals, who lead the Southeast by
just four points over Carolina.
Ovechkin, who leads the Caps in both goals (14) and points (35) this season,
has six markers and seven helpers in 12 career games against Boston.
Like the Bruins, Washington also has a 10-1-1 record on home ice this year.
Tonight's test marks the first of two straight in D.C. for the Capitals, who
will also host Ottawa on Friday.
The Bruins have won six of the last eight meetings with the Caps, but
Washington has taken two of the three most recent encounters. Boston has also
been defeated in two straight trips to the nation's capital.
